Identifying & Ranking 20th Century Photography

Join fellow appraisers at the Stephen Daiter Gallery for an hour-long study in photography connoisseurship.  Stephen Daiter Gallery has been exhibiting and selling important classic American and European photographs from the 20th century since the 1980s. He will walk appraisers through the process of identification. What are some tricks of the trade to help identify what is a vintage photograph vs. a lifetime vs. a posthumous one? What can an appraiser learn by examining a black-and- white photograph with a black light? How can you narrow down the possible dates and determine what type of photograph you have. How does Stephen Daiter determine Good-Better-Best when pricing.  Learn about these issues and more!

Cybersecurity For Appraisers
Important Tips on How to Protect Your Clients - and Yourself

Fortunately, technology experts have developed protective measures to help prevent these problems from happening.

The presentation by Kyle Shumaker, President of STG Shumaker Technology Group will provide advice for appraisers on best practices when it comes to cybersecurity, including types of backups and firewalls, virus & malware and ransomware protection, phishing scams, cloud computing and regulatory compliance. The program will include time for discussion with your fellow ASA Chicago Chapter members about cybersecurity problems and solutions in both large and small appraisal firms.
